'The girl who plays the flute', a silver bas-relief by Pericle Fazzini (Grottammare 1913 - Rome 1987).
Description: Pericle Fazzini (Grottammare 1913 - Rome 1987), an italian sculptor and painter, in 1930 moved to Rome, where he studied at the Scuola Libera del Nudo in the Accademia di belle arti.
In 1935 he took part in the second edition of the Quadriennale of Rome getting a premium for the high relief 'Dance' and 'Storm'. Subsequently, in 1938 he opened a studio in via Margutta, where he will remain for his lifetime.
He participated in various editions of the Venice Biennale with several sculptures, winning, in 1954, the first prize for a sculpture. In subsequent years he win numerous awards, accolades and public and private commissions.
In 1970 he started the work 'The Resurrection' for the Sala Nervi in the Vatican City.
Two major retrospectives will be organized: the first in Avezzano in 1983 and the second at the National Gallery of Modern Art of Rome in 1984.
His works are held in both private and public collections, including the Museum Hakone in Japan, the Tate Gallery in London, the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome, the Art Institute of Chicago, the MOMAT in Tokyo and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Montreal.

Our bas-relief is a multiple of 'The girl who plays the flute', in silver foil 999/1000, made with the mold technique. The same subject, in addition to the 100 pieces made in silver, have been made in bronze in 400 pieces.
It bears the monogram IPZS of the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato and the signature of the artist.
