Description:The founder of Thomas Webb & Sons entered the glass industry in 1829 in Wordsley, a village south of Kingswinford, England.
In 1840 Thomas Webb moved to the Platts, Amblecote (western central England) and started the 'Thomas Webb’s glassworks' in which at least four of his sons eventually became involved.
Thomas Webb died in 1869 at the age of 65 and was succeeded by his son, Thomas Wilkes Webb, under whose leadership, the company’s fortunes prospered to such an extent that the name of Thomas Webb became known amongst connoisseurs of glassware throughout the world.
His energy knew no bounds and he travelled to secure new business and to bring to its enterprise some of Europe’s finest craftsmen.
Fine crystal and coloured glass were made during this period, including 'Cameo Glass' and 'Rock Crystal'.
In 1878 and again in 1889, the exquisite products of 'Thos. Webb & Sons' were on display at the great Paris international exhibitions where they competed against glassware from many countries. On each occasion the Grand Prix was awarded to them.
In the 1878 exhibition’s illustrated catalogue we can read that: 'Messrs. Thomas Webb & Co. are the best makers of glass in the world'.
In the XX century the 'Thomas Webb & co' were the leaders of English glassmakers.
It closed it's doors in 1990 due to the collapse of the Coloroll group.
Our beautiful heavy lead crystal goblets are of exceptional quality and clarity.
The bases are hand-carved and the decor on the bowl is definitely hand-cut finished and heat polished.
Their excellent quality is guaranteed by the fact that, almost each piece of this 'Thos. Webb' crystal set, is marked with the acid etched
backstamp that was in use between 1906 and 1935.
The glass service is composed by 62 pieces, of eigth different types, plus a water jug: eight water gobelet, 24 wine glasses of three different sizes, 8 cherry pink glasses, 6 champagne glasses, 8 punch glasses of two different sizes.
