An incense boat in silvered metal, Italy, early twentieth century.
Description:The incense boat is a receptacle, usually in metal, used to hold the crushed incense grains. It is shaped like a small ship, often on a short stem, with one or two lids hinged in such a way as to open the top of the incense boat partially or entirely.
This incense boat in silvered metal was made both by applying decorative elements such as micro sculptures of crosses and cherubs' heads, and by engraving and hammering its remaining parts. The work was entirely executed by hand.
