Description:Vesta temple, bronze architectonic miniature, dark brown patina and giallo antico marble, Rome, late 18th century.
Referred to as the Temple of Vesta, in fact it is more probably based on the temple dedicated to Hercules Victor. This is a small-scale example of replicas of the large-scale works that were admired by European nobles, artists and literati on the Grand Tour, passing through Italy to take in the beauties of the ancient past. Pieces such as this were often purchased as a souvenir.
