Description:The Vestale is made with the tecnique of Cameo glass. It is produced by etching and carving through fused layers of differently coloured glass to produce designs, usually with white opaque glass figures and motifs on a dark-coloured background. In this cameo glass it was used only the carved white one. It'was put against a dark glass plate to create the colour contrast.
The technique is first seen in ancient Roman art.
The frame is of the early 19th century.
