Description:In Austria, around 1850, independent artisans began competing in the casting of exquisite bronze statutes of humans and naturalistic figures of animals.
This viennese bronzes are famous and distinguished by their naturalistic and detailed representation of human figures, and all species of animals, ranging from Oriental bazaars, or elegant erotic nudes to life-like birds or amusing frogs, pigs, dogs of every breed, cats, insects acting like people.
The pieces can differ in size from a few millimeters up to almost a meter.
Subsequently they began to be known as cold painted Vienna bronzes as the the polychrome painting oil-based pigments were not fired.
Each piece has approximately 5 to 10 coats of paint on them.
The labrador dog's figurine is relatively large for a Vienna Bronze.
With overall balance and perfect proportioning, this Vienna labrador bronze is realistically rendered. Wonderfully fine detailing is demonstrated in both the casting of the figure and the exceptional quality of the cold painting.
Posed in a standing posture, on an alabaster base, his muscular body aptly displays the lion-like image and it's possibly to see almost every hair of the dog.
Good condition with expected loss and wear of paint. The piece has a fine old patina.
