Description:Our plate is fully decorated with naturalistic flowers sprays, roses and tulips, in gold and blue cobalt underglaze.
It was made in China for export to the West by the 'East India Company'.
The Chinese potter and porcelain painter used a European plate as a model for both shape and decoration: it is quite different from the ordinary Chinese manner of rendering flowers.
Such a model was certainly a piece of German or French porcelain.
The shape it taken from European silver models.
The porcelain is covered with a thick grey-blue glaze; the border is decorated in gold.
Condition: good condition. No restoration or repair. A minor chip on the border, at the top, visible in the first picture.
