A bamboo and ivory picture frame, France or United Kingdom, beginning of the twentieth century.
Description:The West was charmed with the East in the second half of the eighteenth century, thanks to the publication of 'Gentlemen and Cabinetmaker's Director', by the cabinet-maker and furniture designer Thomas Chippendale (1718 - 1779), and 'New Book of Chinese Designs' by architects Edwards & Darly.
In parallel with the import to Europe of bamboo goods in the traditional chinese style, a western production was launched, characterized by shapes and lighter patterns in line with the European taste, which lasted until the early twentieth century. France and United Kingdom were the centers of such a production.
