A pair of pastiglia frames, Italy, late nineteenth century.
Description:The pastiglia technique, similar to the plaster and deriving from fifteenth-century Italian tradition, became typical of the production of the second half of the nineteenth century. Plaster decorations imitating a wooden carving, were made using molds
They were then applied on a wood frame and generally completed with gold finish. Our frames are characterized by an unusual faux wood finish.
Our frames are richly decorated with floreal and vegetal motifs on a coherent background. Twisted acanthus leaves decorate their outer parts.
These frames retain their original hand made glasses.
Age:Late nineteenth century.
