Description:This table has gilt and foliate decoration with scenes of dignitaries and courtesans in palace grounds, in the so called chinoiserie style.
The stem has foliate decoration.
In the so called Album Asada in 1856, whose original title is Aogai makie hiinagata Hika, a collection of projects lacquered furniture for export from Japan, now in the Museum of the City of Nagasaki, there is valuable information on the forms, lines and models of furniture on fashion at the time. Among the various prototypes, there is a drawing with a furniture similar to ours (please find below the relevant project).
It is in excellent overall condition.
