A set of four light mahogany chairs, after a model of Enrico Peters, Genoa, Italy, c. 1840.
Description:On the back of these four chairs, which are made from light mahogany, the shaped upper crosspiece features a motif with wings, curls and acanthus leaves. The rear legs are of the sabre type, whereas the front legs are made using moulds and rings.
Simplicity and practicality are the watchwords of the chairs made by Enrico Peters, an italian menusier of British origin, who developed his own take on the Sheraton template, using specific manufacturing processes that saw each phase assigned to a specific worker.
At the time in which they were made, these highly crafted yet unpretentious chairs would not have been placed in the
reception rooms but in the more private part of the house, nevertheless representing the height of modernity.
