Description:The Napoleon III period is characterised by the confluence of a plethora of artistic modes and by a virtuosic imitation of the forms and techniques of the past. It the summation of a multitude of styles and techniques, as is evident in the wall-lights shown here, which are perfect examples of the Louis XV style.
Featuring five lights, these wall-lights are made from gilded bronze and metal and take their inspiration from the beaded en rocailles decorations of the mid-18th century. It is interesting to note how the search for symmetry is still discernible despite the deliberate differences in each part, helping to achieve a sense of balance. A finely chiselled putto is situated between the curved arms.
