Description:This publication is composed of 2 volumes: the first with 483 pages and the second with 540 pages.
Superb contemporary binding in half-leather and percale. Both volumes feature gold-embossed friezes and fleurs-de-lis decorations. The titles are printed in red and black. The frontispieces of the volumes feature portraits of Marie Antoinette, one of which is phototyped. These books contain more than 200 full-page plates, both phototyped and zincographed, including 68 high-quality, hand-painted watercolour lithographs depicting clothes, hats, objets d’art, fabrics, sedan chairs, carriages, etc.
This splendid, monumental work is in an excellent state of preservation, with no staining. Between them, the two books cover every aspect of clothing in the time of Marie Antoinette and the French Revolution, as recorded in the diaries of Madame Eloffe.
The first volume covers the period from 1787 to 1790; the second from 1790 to 1793. At the end of the second volume, there are the Pièces Justificatives, a reproduction of the score for harpsichord of La Mort de Marie-Antoinette.
