Portrait of Emil Brendtner (Westfalen, Prussia, 16 November 1864-?), Pastel on paper, Germany 1917.
Description:Emil Brendtner, probably a Prussian officer, was portrayed in 1917 during the First World War. His informal pose, even if in uniform, suggests a private and family destination of our painting.
Emil Brendtner wears a Kaiserreich uniform (German Imperial Army).
The pastel has been painted in Barmen, Germany.
Barmen merged in 1929 with the early-industrial city of Elberfeld. The new city initial name of Barmen-Elberfeld was changed following a 1930 referendum to Wuppertal (from the river Wupper). The new city was administered within the Prussian Rhine Province.
The picture's frame is modern while the glass is antique and blown.
