'Battle of knights', oil on canvas, school of Francesco Monti called Brescianino (Brescia 1646 - Parma 1703).
Description:This painting is one of the works attribued to Monti. The outlines and some details, the landscape with a fortified citadel in the background on the right, justify such an attribution, but - as it often happens with such works - there is no certainty that it was made by the Master of Brescia.
In the foreground we can see a fight between two knights in armor: one of them, on a white horse, uses his sword against the other, with a plumed hat, on a dark horse. Another dark horse lays down in front of them with his knight on the ground. Other knights complete the scene.
The painting has been relined and has some restorations: on the sky, above the horse's mane, and close to the white clouds, on the right.
The wood and gilded frame, dates back to the early nineteenth century.
