'Portrait of a Lady', oil on canvas, French School, c. 1690-1710.
Description:The lady has the delicate features of an adolescent, wearing a silk and velvet dress embroidered with precious pearls and silver, typical of the late sixteen century's baroque fashion.
Her face and breast are painted using light and shade, and imperceptible nuances.
The whiteness of the young lady face, probably fifteen at the time of the painting, is similar to the color of jasmine flowers that she wears among her hair.
Our young Lady's coiffure began to be fashionable in the early nineties of the seventeenth century. It consists of the gathering of large strands of hair atop the head, creating two large symmetrical curls at the face sides.
The gilded oval carved wood frame dates from the same period as the painting itself.
Age:c. 1690-1710.
Dimensions:16 1/2 x 13 inc.; with frame 21 3/4 x 18 inc.
