A silver-plated flatware service, Delafosse model, by CHRISTOFLE, France, end of XIX century, beginning of XX century. | Description: In France, Christofle has been a leader in the Arts de la Table since its creation in Paris in 1830 and its appointment as purveyor of King Louis-Philippe and the Emperor Napoleon.
Christofle has been the silversmith of choice for generations of French and international families, countless estates, embassies, many luxury hotels and corporate dining rooms, and ocean liners, (the most famous of all, the Normandie ocean liner, for which Christofle created more than 40,000 pieces of silverware).
Christofle was the first company on the European continent that made use of the galvanic techniques for the production of table silver. The company's printed catalogues in which since the 1850's all the models and prices of the current production were listed, were part of the modern marketing concept of Christofle.
