A silver-gilt dinner service for twelve people, Frederic Boucheron, Paris, second half XIX century.
Description:This rare and important part of a vermeil silver dinner service was created by the celebrated jeweller and silversmith, Frederic Boucheron, in his workshop in Paris’s Place Vendôme.
The decoration, in typical French Regency style (1710-1730), takes the form of lambrequins and embossed female heads. It is interesting to note how this style of decoration was echoed in Regency architecture and in Boulle furniture. Moreover, stylised shells and acanthus leaves adorn the upper side of the cutlery.
